Traditional art methods also apply to creating digital art. Anyone with the artistic skill, talent, and imagination can use these programs to create artwork, be they an amateur, hobbyist, enthusiast, or professional. The only differences are that Photoshop is a photo editor that can also be used to create artwork and Painter is a dedicated painting program which can also be used to add artistic flourishes to photos. Painter has enough of a similar UI & layout to Photoshop, so anyone who is fluent in Photoshop shouldn't have any difficulty using Painter. I have always used Photoshop and Painter together when producing artwork. Why would Corel place such a restriction on the software when they're fully aware that some of their customers (including myself) prefer being able to install software on more than one computer? This is the one thing for which I had to downgrade the product a couple of stars.Lest I forget, let me emphasize that all versions of Painter are compatible with all versions of Photoshop (CS, CC, and Elements). I can see how much 64-bit capability has improved Painter in the added capabilities and improved speed.(4) I was able to get PE5 for under $40.The Bad:The only thing I dislike about PE5 is Corel's decision to restrict installation to only one computer. This will save time when rendering fur, glowing energy, dust particles, and fog.(3) The Mirror Painting & Cloner Brushes open up new painting and photo editing possibilities. Since I also have Painter X3, I consider PE5 as something of a primer for deciding whether I should upgrade to Painter 2015 or 2016 in the future. The Good:(1) I love the improved Autopainting & find it more accurate and consistent than PE4's version.(2) I'm particularly impressed by the new Particle and Special FX brushes. Another factor is that I've used it's predecessor (PE4) for 7+ years, and I also wanted the improved Autopainting capabilities & the particle brushes. I decided to purchase Painter Essentials 5 because I found the under $40 price tag irresistible. Reviewed in the United States on September 3, 2015 Would've been nice if it installed on two computers!!!!
